Although we kicked off Sallie’s tours at the end of 2016, chilly weather kept things quiet until the beginning of spring. Warmer days with bright sunshine brought our first tours of the year. At the beginning of March, Sallie and her tour groups took advantage of Daufuskie’s beautiful early spring.
This ushered in to one of Sallie’s busiest months of the year, May. May, along with October, proved to be the two most popular months for Sallie’s tours. In both months, tours were booked solid Tuesdays and Saturdays. From couples enjoying a day on the island to corporate groups taking a well needed reprieve, the gorgeous weather in May and October made for perfect tours.
Throughout the year, Sallie had the opportunity to host a number of different groups. Family reunions, company retreats and social organizations all came to spend a day with Sallie. Of the many wonderful tours, one of our favorites was the Beaufort Theatre Company. As a part of the Pat Conroy Literary Festival the theatre company put on Conrack, the performed adaptation of Pat Conroy’s The Water is Wide. Sallie gave an island tour to the performers, allowing for an authentic understanding of the days Pat was on the island teaching at Maryfields School.
Asking Sallie if she had a favorite memory? She laughed and replied, “Just one? I can’t pick out just one!”
