Things to do on Daufuskie Island

Tour Daufuskie: Not Just Island Operations

Tour Daufuskie is the only locally owned and operated tour company on Daufuskie Island. But we don’t just take care of transportation and tours solely on Daufuskie.

When you book a guided tour or self-guided rental with Tour Daufuskie, we can coordinate getting you and your group to Daufuskie Island.

Although Tour Daufuskie does not operate any boat transportation services, we do have numerous partners who run exceptional water services. Located all over the Lowcountry, we can coordinate the easiest option to fit your needs.

We understand. Getting to Daufuskie Island can be tricky. Navigating the different water transportation services, times and details can become overwhelming. Don’t let that discourage you from visiting Daufuskie Island. We are experts on the waterways, boat services, tours, and island details. If you are unsure about a day on the island, give us a call. Our receptionists are always available to walk you through the process and answer any questions you have. We can schedule the transportation, the tour or rental, and all other aspects of your day.

We know the island. We know the surrounding Lowcountry. We know how to make things easy.

A Year With Sallie: Best of 2017

22426589_857093377785923_7342165182138508940_oAlthough we kicked off Sallie’s tours at the end of 2016, chilly weather kept things quiet until the beginning of spring. Warmer days with bright sunshine brought our first tours of the year. At the beginning of March, Sallie and her tour groups took advantage of Daufuskie’s beautiful early spring.

This ushered in to one of Sallie’s busiest months of the year, May. May, along with October, proved to be the two most popular months for Sallie’s tours. In both months, tours were booked solid Tuesdays and Saturdays. From couples enjoying a day on the island to corporate groups taking a well needed reprieve, the gorgeous weather in May and October made for perfect tours. 22291350_1126490654152166_8246878185553409075_o

Throughout the year, Sallie had the opportunity to host a number of different groups. Family reunions, company retreats and social organizations all came to spend a day with Sallie. Of the many wonderful tours, one of our favorites was the Beaufort Theatre Company. As a part of the Pat Conroy Literary Festival the theatre company put on Conrack, the performed adaptation of Pat Conroy’s The Water is Wide. Sallie Ann gave an island tour to the performers, allowing for an authentic understanding of the days Pat was on the island teaching at Maryfields School.

Asking Sallie if she had a favorite memory? She laughed and replied, “Just one? I can’t pick out just one!”

A Year With Sallie: The Word Has Gotten Out

Screen Shot 2018-01-28 at 1.38.03 PMHaving been in the public eye for years, Sallie is no stranger to the press. However, 2017 featured a number of articles and videos on the author, chef and expert of Gullah culture. With too many to count, Tour Daufuskie has picked a few of our favorites from this past year.

Stay Cozy With School Grounds Coffee

Photo Dec 09, 12 46 09 PMNestled on a dirt road, in the old school kitchen sits Daufuskie’s newest gem, School Grounds Coffee.

This quaint coffee shop is quite an island treat. Located at Maryfields School on School Road, the coffee shop reflects the history of Daufuskie. Photos and articles of days past give patrons an idea of what the space once was.

Pam and Brian Cobb opened School Grounds Coffee in early November. The Cobbs first came to Daufuskie Island in March of 2016. Escaping from Raleigh for a relaxing vacation, Pam and Brian fell in love with the island. Mrs. Pat, Photo Dec 19, 10 22 11 AMof Daufuskie Island Community Farm, knew right away they were destined to live on Daufuskie. She even accurately predicted that they would move in across the street.

The Cobbs, partnering with Leanne Coulter and Photo Dec 08, 1 48 56 PMRhonda Davis, have created the perfect cafe atmosphere. Walking in brings you back to days of handwriting practice and read alouds. This warm and inviting space calls you to sit and visit with island locals and visitors. Their menu boasts dIMG-0187elicious espresso drinks made with fair trade, single origin, 100% arabica beans, an assortment of teas, and rich, creamy hot chocolate.

Pam and Brian have big plans for School Grounds Coffee. They intend to get the kitchen DHEC approved. And if you have ever had one of Pam’s cakes or treats, you’ll understand our excitement in this endeavor. They also hope to build on a porch. With mild winters and sunny summers, an outdoor venue is the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing morning.

So stop by Maryfields School for a tasty beverage and some warm conversation.
