What Should I Bring?
We get this question, and similar ones, often. To answer this, let us first prepare you for what you’re day will most likely encompass. Day-trippers will spend most of their day exploring the island by golf cart. So plan to wear something conducive to sitting outside on a golf cart. Not only that, but most of what you’ll visit and see is outside. Plan to wear clothes you are comfortable wearing in the outdoors. And make sure they are season appropriate.
Also remember this when packing items. We offer four passenger and six passenger carts. The back seat on the cart does fold flat and can be used to hold larger items if no one is occupying the seat. There is also a small cubby under the back seat for backpacks or small soft coolers. But remember, it’s a golf cart. There is limited space for larger items like hard coolers, strollers, big bags, walkers, etc. If you need the extra space, go for the larger cart or get an additional one.
There are three restaurants on the island, Lucy Bell’s Cafe, Melrose Beach Club, and Old Daufuskie Crab Company. Plus a general store. You are more than welcome to bring a packed lunch or drinks and snacks, but can also purchase these items on Daufuskie.
Bug Spray. Bring it. Remember, most of your day will be outside. Daufuskie is incredibly underdeveloped. As a result of our heavily wooded areas, we do have mosquitoes and gnats dependent on the time of year. Come prepared. This way you’re not spending your day swatting bugs.
What about swimming? Yes! We have almost three miles of practically private beaches. We don’t recommend lugging over all the equipment. Car to boat to golf cart across soft sand to the beach? Doesn’t sound too relaxing. Instead, take a look at our Beach Day packages. We do the lugging and set up. You do the relaxing. Be sure to wear your suit and bring your own towel.
And this may sound silly, but bring your wallet! You need your driver’s license to drive the golf cart. Plus all businesses over here accept credit cards, not just cash.
