Did you know Daufuskie Island is bridgeless? Not only that, but barging a vehicle over here for a short stay is not feasible. To get to Daufuskie, you must take a ferry or a water taxi.
There are a number of options, although we have a few recommendations. Be aware, for overnight guests the water transportation fees are a little different.
May River Excursions brings visitors to the island on their water taxis from Old Town Bluffton. This is a great option for travelers. Because they run smaller boats, they have a more flexible schedule. Instead of only have a few options, they can fit you into their schedule throughout the day.
It is $150 for up to 3 guests, $45 per person after that. This includes luggage, parking, and the round trip water taxi. Did we mention it is a gorgeous ride on the river? Check out more about May River’s overnight water taxi here!
A second excellent option is the Daufuskie Island Ferry. The is a larger and partially enclosed boat. The ferry departs from the base of the Hilton Head bridges at 7:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm every day. They also offer a convenient late night run at 9:00 on Fridays for you late night travelers.
The ferry costs $45 per person, round trip. For overnight guests they charge 10$ a night per vehicle for parking, and have a luggage fee of $20-$40 depending on how many items you have.
A third option from Savannah is Bull River Marina. From the base of the Tybee Bridge on Wilmington Island, Bull River can bring your group over on their water taxi. Similar to May River Excursions, they’re rates are $150 for up to 3 people, $45 per person after that. Give them a call to double check their schedule, parking and luggage!
Like we said, there are numerous options. If you have your own boat or plan to take a separate water transportation company, just be sure to figure out the dock you will arrive to on Daufuskie. This way you will be able to coordinate getting from the dock to your rental property.
